Do you sell GF products other than the Wholemeal bread mix?
We will probably import a GF beer mix soon, but no other products at this stage.
Is the mix dairy free?
Yes!
Is the mix potato free?
Yes!
Is the mix soy & egg free?
The mix does not contain soy or egg but traces may be present due to the manufacturing process.
Is it suitable for sandwiches?
Yes it’s perfect, even 3 days after baking. Great for school lunches and picnics too!
Can it be made into a yeast free loaf?
Yes, the yeast free instructions have been improved to make a better sandwich loaf; add 3 teaspoons of GF baking powder and use Soda Water.
Can this be made in a conventional oven?
Yes. But it makes a large loaf, either buy a larger pan available through us, or follow the instructions provided to make a smaller loaf.
What bread machines are best?
Works in most machines with a short cycle of about 2 ½ hours.
I use a Breville, customers have had success with:
- Sunbeam
- Sanyo
- George Forman
- Tefal
- Gourmet Baker
- New Panasonics
- Older Panasonics have had variable results
What is the shelf life?
Usually 3-4 months, but can vary. Check the label.

Will this loaf crumble to pieces after a day or two?
No! Stays fresh for up to 3-4 days, slice after slice, no crumbling.
Why does the bread require several toastings before its toasted?
The bread is very moist and will require a few toastings to brown up, depending on your toaster.
Can the mix be used in other baked goods?
Yes! Try adding some mix into banana or carrot cakes, or pizza bases. See the web site for some recipes.
What yeast works best?
- Edmonds instant active dried yeast is used in the 600g packet mix, as it has a long shelf life and is the correct quantity for the mix.
- If you are buying yeast check it is gluten free, as some contain gluten.
- If you are making several loaves a week using the bulk mix, try Bakels yeast which can be bought in a cheaper large foil pack and can be kept in an airtight container in the fridge.
Can I add other ingredient to the bread mix?
Yes it’s versatile! Try adding poppy and sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, sun dried tomatoes and olives, or dried fruit and spices.
Is it normal for the bread knife to collect some residue after slicing this bread?
Yes, the loaf is moist, it’s often less sticky the day after baking.
I’m having trouble getting my bread to rise properly!
- Check you have added the yeast. Even I have occasionally forgotten to do this!
- If you are adding your own yeast, check when it expirers.
- Try using very, very warm water around 40 degrees Celsius.
- Try using another machine in case your machine is not cooking hot enough.
How can it be Wholemeal?
It’s made with ground linseeds, psyllium husk, brown GF flours, and amaranth to give it texture, colour and taste, and most importantly fibre.
The bread I made in the conventional oven tasted a bit yeasty!
It probably needed a longer rising time for the yeast to activate properly, or the water may not have been warm enough to activate the yeast, it needs to be around 40 degrees Celsius.
Sometimes the mixing blade gets stuck in the loaf!
Try spraying it with some oil.
